Major features of the project include:
- Turn of the century Historic Building used to serve as the City Hall for Red Bank.
- Renovate the building to be used as a Childrens’s Cultural Center with several activity rooms for children, exhibit hall, and a theater to serve the Red Bank Community while preserving the historical architectural features.
- A Geothermal Open Loop HVAC System was selected over conventional gas boiler & chiller to avoid historic intrusion and associated cooling tower noise.
- Design the electric service supply and power distribution system.
- Design the communication system, lighting, exit and emergency lighting systems throughout the facility.
To fulfill the requirements of Historic Preservation, J and P Engineers was asked to design a HVAC system which would be least intrusive at the same time provide operating economics. J and P conducted a feasibility study of several HVAC options and recommended an Open Loop Geothermal System. The Department of Energy has listed Geothermal Systems as the most efficient and environment friendly HVAC system available in the market today. The Open Loop System draws well water from a supply well to the heat exchanger in the mechanical room. After the heat transfer, water is put back in a return well about 50 feet away from the supply well thus eliminating any cross-transfer of temperature.
This project is currently in the construction bid process.
